Stop Selling Aftercare. Start Teaching It

Your work isn’t really finished when your client leaves the salon . . . you know that without proper aftercare their results will only go so far. So how do you get your client to believe in the power of aftercare, remember to be consistent, and invest in it? And how do you do all of that without feeling like you’re just upselling???

You nailed the processing time. The lashes are LIFTED. The brows are FLUFFY. Your client looks in the mirror and loves what they see.

👏 SERVICE. CRUSHED. 👏

And then comes the part that can make even the most confident Lash + Brow Artist suddenly feel a little. . . awkward:

“So, there’s a product I recommend you use at home…” 😬

We KNOW aftercare matters. We know a Lash Lift or Brow Lamination is a chemical treatment performed on the client’s natural hair. We know that keeping those hairs conditioned and cared for can make a huge difference in how they look, feel and grow out.

But does your client know that?

More importantly: do they understand it well enough to actually believe that the aftercare product you’re recommending has value?

Because there’s a BIG difference between educating your client and giving them a sales pitch.

If you wait until checkout, point to a bottle on the shelf and say, “Do you want to add a lash serum today?” - it feels like an upsell.

But, if you’ve spent the appointment explaining what you’re doing to the lashes or brows, why conditioning matters after a chemical treatment, and how proper home care can help protect the service they’ve just invested in, then you’re educating. Things feel more collaborative and less transactional, because knowledge is shared and goals are aligned.

You’re not selling something. You’re completing the service. 👏

And THAT is the mindset shift we want to make.

It’s not just about today’s results, but also how things feels four, five, six weeks later.

We want to hear:

“My lashes stayed so beautiful.”
“My brows grew out so nicely.”
“They still feel soft and healthy.”
“When can I do this again?!”

That’s the client experience we’re trying to create.

And aftercare plays a HUGE role in it.

The trick is getting your client to understand that before you ever ask them to buy anything.

🧪 Give Them the “Why” Before You Give Them the Product

Your client probably doesn’t know what happens chemically during a Lash Lift or Brow Lamination.

And honestly? They don’t need a cosmetology-school lecture on disulfide bonds while they’re lying in your chair. 😂

But they do need to understand the basics:

We are chemically treating and reshaping your natural hair. And just like chemically treating the hair on your head, that hair benefits from proper conditioning and care afterward.

Suddenly, aftercare makes sense.

You’re not recommending a serum because you have a retail goal to hit this month.

You’re recommending it because you want the lashes or brows you just treated to stay conditioned, manageable and beautiful throughout the life of the service — and you want them in great condition when that client comes back to see you again.

That’s an entirely different conversation.

And when your client understands the why, you don’t have to become some shlocky, “BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!” salesperson at checkout. 😂

You’ve already demonstrated the value.

The product recommendation is simply the final step in giving your client the tools they need to get the most out of the service they just paid for.

That’s not upselling. That’s good client care.

✨ Aftercare Should Be Part of the Treatment — Not the Checkout

As Lash + Brow Artists, we spend SO much time perfecting the technical side of our services.

Processing times. Placement. Shield selection. Symmetry. Styling. Tinting. Product choice.

But giving your client an incredible Lash Lift or Brow Lamination isn’t just about how amazing they look right when they get out of your chair.

A truly great Lash Lift or Brow Lamination experience lasts through the entire life of the service.

That means we want lashes and brows that:
✨ Stay conditioned and manageable
✨ Maintain their shape as they grow
✨ Feel soft rather than dry or brittle
✨ Grow out beautifully
✨ Are in great condition when the client comes back for their next treatment

A client may not understand hair chemistry.

They DO understand:

“My lashes looked incredible for weeks and still feel healthy.”

And that is what keeps clients coming back.

💧Hydration + Conditioning = Your Client’s New Homework

Once the initial post-service period is over, your client should have a simple routine for keeping their lashes and/or brows conditioned.

And SIMPLE is the key word here.

We don’t need to send clients home with a 14-step lash routine and a laminated instruction manual. 😂

Give them something easy that they can actually incorporate into their day.

✍️ So What Should You Be Recommending?

One of our favorite recommendations is Elleeplex Hyaluronic Boost Serum, a daily aftercare product designed specifically for lashes and brows. It helps hydrate and condition the hair while supporting strength, elasticity, shine and healthy-looking growth.

👉 SHOP ELLEEPLEX HYALURONIC BOOST SERUM

We also love Elleeplex Clear Aftercare Mascara. This product goes on lightweight and clear so it can condition lashes without weighing down the Lift. It can be used nightly before bed and/or in the morning on its own or underneath mascara as a primer. When paired with a Lash Lift, Tint, or Brow Lamination it has been know to prolong the life of these services . . . AKA a small investment in aftercare for your client means a big return on what they paid for their service.

👉 SHOP ELLEEPLEX CLEAR AFTERCARE MASCARA

For lashes that continue to keep their lift but need a little more enhancement, clients rave about ELLEEVATE BLACK AFTERCARE MASCARA. While other formulas may be drying or wilt a fresh Lift, this mascara is formulated with hair health in mind to help lashes maintain their integrity lift after lift.

PRO TIP: Don’t wait until checkout to mention aftercare.

Talk about it during the service.

Try something as simple as:

“Because we’re chemically treating your natural lashes today, I really want you conditioning them at home. It helps keep them hydrated and healthy as your Lift grows out.”

Now you aren’t selling a serum.

You’re educating your client about protecting the service they just invested in.

BIG difference. 👏

🛁 The First 24 Hours Matter

Your client also needs to know what to do immediately following their service.

For Lash Lifts, we recommend avoiding moisture, steam and eye makeup for the first 24 hours following treatment.

Think:

🚿 No steamy shower directly on those lashes
🔥 No sauna or steam room
🏊‍♀️ No jumping into the pool
💦 No soaking the lashes
👁️ Give the eye makeup a little break

And make sure your clients understand that aftercare isn’t about being afraid to touch their lashes forever.

After that initial period, clean, conditioned lashes are happy lashes.

The goal isn’t to preserve a Lash Lift by never washing your face again. PLEASE wash your face. 😂

The goal is to protect the freshly treated hair initially and then transition into a healthy maintenance routine.

💜 Don’t Forget About the Brows!

Brow Lamination aftercare deserves just as much attention.

Clients LOVE the fluffy, full look of a fresh lamination - but we also want those brow hairs feeling soft and conditioned as they grow.

Encourage your Brow Lamination clients to make conditioning part of their routine, especially since they’ll be brushing and styling those hairs regularly.

Elleeplex Hyaluronic Boost Serum can be used on both lashes AND brows, making it an incredibly easy retail recommendation if you offer both services.

One product. Two services. Healthy-looking hair.

We LOVE an efficient retail shelf. 👏

🌿 Healthy Aftercare Actually Starts IN the Treatment Room

Home care is important, but we can start supporting the hair before the client even gets off the treatment bed.

Enter: Elleeplex ReGEN 2.0

ReGEN 2.0 is a professional conditioning treatment formulated with ingredients including peptides, panthenol, biotin and plant extracts. It can be incorporated into Lash Lifts, Brow Laminations and tinting services to add conditioning and support the overall health of the hair. Please just remember that when combining services, to only add that ReGen to one part of the service . . . otherwise over use of it will cause the hairs to be weighed down.

💰 And YES . . . While Aftercare Shouldn’t Be A Hard Sell, It Is Also Good Business

Let’s talk business for a second.

Recommending retail aftercare can increase your revenue without adding another appointment to your schedule.

But there’s an even bigger benefit:

Better aftercare can create happier long-term clients.

When someone comes back six or eight weeks later with lashes that feel conditioned and ready for their next Lift, everybody wins.

Your client gets better continuity between services.

You get to work with healthier-looking natural hair.

And instead of them thinking:

“My Lash Lift looked amazing for two weeks and then my lashes felt dry…”

They’re thinking:

“I LOVE getting my lashes done here.”

That distinction matters.

🛍️ Make Aftercare Part of the SERVICE - Not a Sales Pitch

If talking about retail makes you uncomfortable, change the way you think about it.

You aren't trying to convince someone to buy a random product.

You are the professional who just chemically treated their natural hair.

Making an appropriate aftercare recommendation is part of doing your job well.

If a client colored her hair at a salon, her stylist would probably recommend products to help maintain it.

Your Lash Lift and Brow Lamination clients deserve the same level of education.

Keep your recommendation personalized:

For your Lash Lift client:
“Your lashes look amazing. I want to keep them feeling this healthy throughout the entire grow-out, so I recommend using a daily conditioning serum.”

For your Brow Lamination client:
“Your brows are going to be so easy to style now. Just remember that we chemically treated the hair today, so keeping them conditioned at home is really important.”

Helpful. Professional. Easy.

🔄 The Goal? Get Them Back in Your Chair With HAPPY, HEALTHY HAIR.

Your relationship with your client shouldn't be:

Appointment → gorgeous photo → goodbye forever.

We want:

Great consultation → great treatment → great aftercare → beautiful grow-out → happy client → NEXT APPOINTMENT. 🔄

When your client returns, you want to look at those lashes or brows and think:

YES. We have a beautiful canvas to work with again.

That’s the long game.

Because the best Lash + Brow Artists aren't just thinking about how their work looks when the client walks out the door.

They're thinking about how that client's lashes and brows are going to look and feel when they walk BACK IN. And ultimately, the way their services present out in the world is a walking billboard for you and your work. 💜

Give them the education. Give them the tools. Teach them how to protect their investment.

Then get ready to do it all over again. 🙌
